5/21/2023 0 Comments James gang 15 greatest hits songsBang feels less like a band album and more like talented studio musicians on the loose, but die-hard fans of either the Gang or the late Bolin will enjoy it, if only in fits and starts. "Even if Bolin's wistful Alexis doesn't fit with the other tracks it's a highlight, as is the opening rocker Standing in the Rain where conmen (" Your note said you went to Charleston/But I know you went to New Mexico") and cretins (" You left behind a dead father/A sick mother and 4 younger kids") are forced to face up to love. Listen on Apple Music (opens in new tab)Įvery week, Album of the Week Club listens to and discusses the album in question, votes on how good it is, and publishes our findings, with the aim of giving people reliable reviews and the wider rock community the chance to contribute. But when he wasn’t he was just miserable."ĭespite Bolin’s growing chemical dependency, there’s no denying that the two albums The James Gang recorded with him, 1973’s Bang and 1974’s Miami, are among the group’s finest, and are arguably among the most underrated rock releases of the 70s. He’d get up in the morning and take, like, 20 aspirins just to get going. Tommy was actually relatively quiet, but the drug thing was hideous. He just seemed like the right guy, played the right way – a spectacular guitar player. Peters recalls Bolin relocating to their home base of Cleveland, Ohio: “He was great. At the suggestion of their old pal Walsh, Tommy Bolin was invited to saddle up and ride with The James Gang. After a pair of disappointing releases, Troiano left.

Likewise there's also some "Coming soon!" placeholders in the new menu for extra game modes, no idea how many more there might be. Love Fortissimole, and love OC Remix's covers.ĭepends on how much else they might want to add, a they originally just said there would be "at least one more character" besides Nocturna, and that was Diamond, so it sounds like they haven't set in stone exactly how much more they're gonna do. And as I mentioned before, no more Phasing cheese, good luck to Coda players. But Aria got even harder, honestly I really think her zone order needs rethinking. Goolems got nerfed to only drop goo once, and there was much rejoicing. Familiars might be a little too useful on characters like Melody and Eli. New weapons are pretty strong, with Cutlass and Warhammer being braindead enough to deserve nerfs. We know she's still a work in progress, maybe some tweaks will come with her story boss.Īs far as difficulty goes, I think it's a little easier for most characters, but not a whole lot. Transform is a fun toy to play with and the Z5 bleed is an interesting twist, but it's not challenging and still feels like Cadence+. Cutlass feels really dumb for a starting weapon, I expect it'll get nerfed. She feels like a buffed Cadence, just add the Transform spell and Cutlass with no real restrictions. Nocturna is fun to play, but kinda too easy right now. I still think Z5 is a little bit easier than Z4 at the end of a run when you've got a good build going, but it can be pretty scary if you're not well-equipped - especially if you're Aria. The Conduit is a neat twist to help you deal with those swarms. Zone 5 is pretty hectic, you have to deal with some hefty swarms, including several enemies that move every beat and a unique projectile. And I'm glad Phasing is gone, it was dumb for speedrunning and things are much more competitive without it. My favorites are the Axe, Shovel of Courage, Shovel of Strength, and all the familiars. Many of the new items are really fun to play with, especially for speed. Even in Early Access I'm already enjoying the new additions a lot, and I have plenty of faith in BYG to continue adding more good things and polishing the parts that are a little rough around the edges. 5/21/2023 0 Comments Mapublisher mapsAnd QGIS, an open source GIS work horse came to my rescue here. The second requirement was to find a suitable software program to export as HTML Image Map. This now could be exported as a Shape file to be used in any GIS program. Then I ran the geoprocessor function of merging the areas by region attribute. But here I added another attribute field wherein the countries were suitably categorised into four regions. The first was the simplest of the three requirements, which I could easily do with Avenza MAPublisher’s geoprocessing function of joining the areas.

They are very useful as they allow us to identify the relationships between dependent and independent variables without requiring a particular parametric form. Generalized additive models fit non-parametric curves to given data without needing a specific mathematical model to describe the nonlinear relationship between the variables.

Significant changes to version 1 has been a complete user interface revamp. Version 1 was free of charge, and the very first commercial version, 2, was published as a first beta version in October 2005. The main goal of the development was Usability. With only subtle shifts in our thinking, our language, and in our expectations, she tells us that we can begin to change the ingrained behaviour that sap health, optimism, and vitality from our lives. Drawing on landmark work in the field and her own body of colourful and highly original experiments, Langer shows that the magic of rejuvenation and ongoing good health lies in being aware of the ways we mindlessly react to social and cultural cues. The retelling of the study has been snapped up by Jennifer Aniston's new production company, with Aniston tipped to play Prof Langer. If we could turn back the clock psychologically, could we also turn it back physically? For more than thirty years, award-winning psychologist Ellen Langer has studied this provocative question, and now, in Counterclockwise, she presents a conclusive answer: opening our minds to what's possible, instead of clinging to notions about what's not, can lead to better health - at any age. In any event there is likely to be more interest in the 1979 experiment. "If you take something like heart disease positive thinking can have a role, because while it won't heal your heart on its own, positive thinking will feed into positive actions like healthy eating or exercise which will help." Whatever the cause he believes there is a place for the type of positive thinking shown in the study. Prof Weisman believes another factor could be motivational, the men are simply trying harder by the end of the week, or it could be similar to hypnotism, where people do better on memory tests because they are told they have a better memory. The same could be going on here, by getting people to act younger they feel younger." "Part of it could be self perception, for example if you get people to smile they feel happier. Why some people age faster than others is mysterious "I think there could be multiple things going on here and the question is which explanations really hold water. Richard Wiseman, professor of public understanding of psychology at the University of Hertfordshire, thinks the results of Prof Langer's experiments are fascinating but the big question is what's causing them. "My own view of ageing is that one can, not the rare person but the average person, live a very full life, without infirmity, without loss of memory that is debilitating, without many of the things we fear." Now after over 30 years of research into the connection between the mind and the body and with the confidence and conviction of a Harvard professor, she feels she has a fuller story to tell. As a young academic, she feared this might taint the experiment and affect the acceptance of the results. She first published the scientific data in 1981 but she left out many of the more colourful stories. Prof Langer believes that by encouraging the men's minds to think younger their bodies followed and actually became "younger". By the final morning one man had even decided he could do without his walking stick.Īs they waited for the bus to return them to Boston, Prof Langer asked one of the men if he would like to play a game of catch, within a few minutes it had turned into an impromptu game of "touch" American football. Over the days, Prof Langer began to notice that they were walking faster and their confidence had improved. They weren't being treated as incompetent or sick. "You have to understand, when these people came to see if they could be in the study and they were walking down the hall to get to my office, they looked like they were on their last legs, so much so that I said to my students 'why are we doing this? It's too risky'."īut soon the men were making their own meals. Understandably, Prof Langer herself had doubts. The men were entirely immersed in an era when they were 20 years younger. "I told them they could move them an inch at a time, they could unpack them right at the bus and take up a shirt at a time." When they got off the bus at the retreat, Prof Langer did not help the men carry their suitcases in. |
